Market Garden

Last year's installation of 8' high deer fence has made a difference in our yields. The market garden is 99' x 60' with rows 40' in length. While our strawberry plants, both June and ever-bearing take up 5 of the 20 rows, the remaining beds contain both the expected and the un-expected fruit and vegetable. Our inputs are limited to Organic bone meal, OMRI listed liquid fish fertilizer, composted chicken manure (aged 6+ mos), mushroom compost, and epsom salts. No pesticides or herbicides are used at any point in the growing process. Most insect battles are fought using hand-to-hand combat with a flick of the finger. Drip irrigation was a welcome addition this season. The system utilizes a 110 gallon water trough which gives us the ability to measure our water usage. Water is life and we don't want to abuse it.

Ground Cherry - Aunt Molly's

This polish heirloom produces tart-sweet fruit enclosed in a papery husk. Often described being a similar taste to pineapple, the fruit drops to the ground when fully ripe. The ground cherry is also an excellent choice for pies and preserves due to its high pectin content.
